Feature Projects

High Dosage Tutoring Working Group

Harvard Strategic Data Project, 2023-2025

In collaboration with the national non-profit Accelerate, I led a two-year working group designed to help leaders across five state departments of education identify a standardized protocol for monitoring the implementation and impact of high dosage tutoring. Under my direction, the working group developed a set of tools and guidelines to help other state agencies adopt best practices in data collection and monitoring to ensure that tutoring implementation meets the requirements for impact. These tools and guidelines were compiled into a High Dosage Tutoring Toolkit to be made public in the fall of 2025.

Needs Assessment of the NJ SNAP Outreach Program

New Jersey Department of Human Services, 2023

In collaboration with the Center for Research and Evaluation on Education and Human Services at Montclair State University, I conducted a needs assessment to uncover the limitations and assets of a SNAP Outreach Program to enhance the state’s ability to identify, reach, and serve households experiencing food insecurity. For this study, I wrangled publicly available and state administrative data to calculate and map a SNAP participation rate at the census block group level. This map enables stakeholders to examine the demographic characteristics and geographic location of SNAP eligible and eligible non-participant populations. Coupled with the voices of SNAP Outreach staff and individuals experiencing food insecurity, the SNAP map facilitated the development of targeted outreach strategies and informed the state’s SNAP Outreach plan.

Broadband Availability Mapping

State and Local Broadband Coalitions in Ohio, Rhode Island, Florida, and Missouri, 2022-2024

In collaboration with Reid Consulting Group, I wrangled administrative and proprietary data to create comprehensive state-wide databases used to map broadband availability and help community partners successfully apply for federal broadband grant funding.

Cost-Effectiveness of the AVID College Outreach Program

Harvard Strategic Data Project, 2019

As part of my fellowship with the Harvard Strategic Data Project, I conducted program evaluations and ROI analyses for the School District of Palm Beach County, the 11th largest school district in the U.S. My featured project focused on the cost-effectiveness of the AVID college outreach program and resulted in a peer reviewed publication featured in the What Works Clearinghouse.

Arts Education and Academic Achievement

Rutgers University, Doctoral Dissertation, 2017

For my doctoral dissertation, I used two national longitudinal data sets (ECLS-K and NELS) to examine the relationship between classroom time spent on arts education and academic achievement. I used advanced techniques for the analysis of longitudinal and nested data including hierarchal linear modeling and child fixed effects approaches. Results consistently pointed to the positive association of time spent on arts education and academic achievement in both English language arts and mathematics. This research resulted in a peer-reviewed publication.
